Mark E. Hufeisen Memorial Scholarship

Mark E. Hufeisen served in the Virginia State Park system for nearly 30 years before succumbing to cancer in 2011. He was a dedicated employee, a creative thinker and had an internal drive to make the recreational setting of state parks the very best that it could be. He especially enjoyed seeing hard working young people develop into successful contributors to society. Our hope is that the award of this scholarship will help you in your academic endeavors and lead to many successes in your chosen career.

Total Scholarship Amount Awarded
18,800 Awarded

The first two Hufeisen Memorial scholarships were awarded in 2014. Since then nearly $17,900 has been given in scholarship money to 57 recipients. Below are a few testimonials shared by scholarship award winners.

Thank you to the Virginia State Park Employee Benevolence Association for awarding me with the Mark E. Hufeisen Scholarship. I grew up in Foster Falls, and I knew Mark when I was younger. I have also been an employee at New River Trail for the past two seasons. Therefore, receiving this award meant so much to me, and it was an honor to receive a scholarship in Mark’s name!  This scholarship has definitely helped me in my first year of pursuing a degree in business at Virginia Tech.  Thank you!

The VSPEBA scholarship has been beneficial to me, by lowering the tuition cost of my education to help make it more affordable. Without scholarships like this, I would have had to take out more federal loans to help cover the cost of my education. I am grateful for this scholarship because it will enable me to graduate with less debt, helping prepare me for my financial future.

Dear VSPEBA Family, thank you for the Mark E. Hufeisen Scholarship. . . . My college experience is great and you are a part of the reason I am here. . . . you have helped me get one step closer to my future success.

Even after receiving federal aid, a large portion of the total cost to attend Virginia Tech has fallen directly on myself and my family. In several instances, receiving the VSPEBA Scholarship has helped to lessen the impact of this financial burden. I am sincerely grateful for the generosity of the VSPEBA and hope that it will continue to enable others to pursue higher education.”
